On the way back from the Great White North, saw a lot of this sign (this is the closest I could find; the version I saw in Canadia had a much rounder lump):



Am wondering exactly what the need is for so many Canadians to run around stabbing turtles in the side with spears.

Do you have any idea how dangerous the Canadian Humpback Turtle is? They'll eat you and your whole family if you don't club them with a shovel!

That would explain the drivers in Quebec, then, afraid to let off the gas for a nanosecond and swerving at random to avoid turtle attacks....

(Pennsylvania was gorgeous, but I wish I'd had enough camcorder batteries and DVD space for all of Canada. There's some breathtaking country up there.)

It's true, drivers in Quebec would rather kill 10 people on the road than be late for the hockey game. It's right there on their licenses I think.

I was thinking of you the other day actually as you were likely rocketing by on the 401. If you do happen to go sight-seeing in Canada again I would suggest the Ottawa valley anytime in the next couple of weeks if you have the time. With the leaves changing it is going to be all kinds of gorgeous down that way.

I can't stop using "Canadia," though. It just rolls off the tongue and it's such a lovely word in and of itself. So what if it's not "true" or "accurate" or "real," such pre-9/11 thinking! Consensus reality! Veracity via democracy!
