Trailer for NBC's Day One. Doesn't look as embarrassing as ABC's Impact, but then a televised drunken colonoscopy wouldn't be that embarrassing.

While on the topic of television, Sci-Fi is now officially Syfy. Sygh.

Hey, how's Torchwood looking? Watchable? Entertaining?

Joe Sakic retires after 20 years of playing professional hockey. If you need to know nothing else about him, know that he's the first NHL captain to win the Stanley Cup and forego the traditional victory lap, handing it instead to 21-season vet Ray Bourque, who'd come to Colorado in search of a championship.

In other hockey news, Marian Hossa signed a 12-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks for $62.8 million. The staggering part of this deal is that he's now under contract until the year 2021. I'll still be putting "1998" on all my checks. (Right, when was the last time any of us wrote a check?)

Parting shot: locomotive vs. tornado. About as one-sided as crab vs. pipe. I guess nature is now tied.

Oh, God, the Slitheen. You know when they fail to be convincing villains for Sarah Jane that there's no hope.

I'd heard good things about its mini-series -- maybe end-dates make better fiction all the way 'round -- but nothing from reputable sources just yet. I have faith in Jack Barrowman, but the rest of the lot are unknown quantities to me. Except Russell T Davies, and...being a known quantity isn't always an asset.

I've watched a few of the middle bits, and I actually liked it. Seemed less silly than Doctor Who. More just brain-free media crack than any serious sci-fi, though.
