Essentially right before the reboot that erased the Silver-Age continuity from Superman's history, they decided to have one last ragnarok-flavored go at Superman, as drawn by seminal artist Curt Swan and George Perez, and as written by Alan Moore. It's everything that that introduction says and a hell of a lot more. I just rediscovered it and thought it was...awesome.
