Because I wouldn't want to let [livejournal.com profile] erica_roo down.

Leave a comment and I will:
a) Tell you why I friended you.
b) Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
c) Tell you something I like about you.
d) Tell you a memory I have of you.
e) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
f) Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
g) In return, you must post this in your LJ.

a) Because it's a good way to keep tabs on your life. And you can always render it entertainingly into words.
b) Actually, it goes back to Buffy. It all starts there.
c) The way you tell stories. "Animated" doesn't do it enough credit.
d) Riding around in your brand new..."car" isn't quite right. "Driving machine" is more appropriate.
e) What's your dream job?
f) Must be this one. It's you, for one, and you've got hair action going on there that I don't think I've ever seen from you IRL.

a) I think it was your heartened defense of Animal in the hypothetical match-up of Spider-Man vs. Animal. It made me say "Yes, this is a man who gets it." The KC locale was just a bonus.
b) Right now it's D&D because of the current 4e filter. But before that, it's a cornucopia of multimedia happiness.
c) You appreciate the finer things in life. You understand the appeal of everything I feel guilty about liking.
d) All I can say is it involves Blackwater. (Wow. Those are the type of enigmatic statements I usually have to make up.)
e) If money/moving were no object, where would you live?
f) Oh, God, they're all gold. But I have to fall back on this one for much the same reason as Roo's: it grounds my perception of you a bit better. If that makes sense.

a) I was impressed by your writing style and discipline and distinct vision. You relate a very emphatic and empathetic sense of self in even the most ordinary of posts. It's something I've wondered about, but have no idea how to replicate it yet.
b) A colour? Even though it's in that part of the spectrum where I'm a bit useless, of course, indigo. Is that too much of a cop-out? Firefly/Serenity, then. And that still seems a bit cheap. You're not conducive to pigeonholing, though.
c) The best thing about your posting frequency is the size of the window that opens into you and your life. It's refreshing, especially when life gets a touch overwhelming, to know that my travails are neither unique nor insurmountable.
d) I remember a few moments with your sig.other that made you positively effervescent, and to see that relationship sparkle and crackle to life was a very good thing.
e) If you could fix just one thing about our world -- what would it be?
f) Probably this one, because it's so evocative and relevant. Impressive statement.

b) That would be the X-Men, of course, and all permutations thereof.
c) I don't think I was more honored than when I made a guest appearance in the Late Show.
d) "It's called the lambada, Mr. DeFalco...." I have never been able to get that line out of my head.
e) Back in those days -- back before we arrived on the Internets -- what's the most important thing you've taken from those days?
f) It's tough, but I'll have to say this one. Because times change and we find the things that really matter in life.

b) Coffee. That one's pretty simple.
c) You are, without a doubt and by a wide wide margin, the best person I've ever known.
d) There's always Pizza Hut.
e) Okay, I'm stealing this from above, but what is your dream job?
f) There are too, too many that're just fantastic. You could pick one at random and make a very compelling case. But I think it's this one because that's just a perfect picture.

a) I recall a few posts in the neighborhood of the '06 election being very familiar-sounding to me (and not all about politics). There are some people I add because they're a lot like me, there are some I add because they're disparate. And then there are some who're both but just more interesting about it. I think you fall into the last category.
b) Do I even need to say it? Do I even need to use the initials (say, beginning my sentences with them)?
c) You've got a ton of different and occasionally conflicting roles in your life and you work with profound patience to balance them, always erring on the side of sacrifice. I don't know how you do it.
d) Your fingers-in-the-dashboard description of...let's just call it a transportation near-mishap. And here I was thinking I had my cardiac problems all sorted out before I read that.
e) If you could tell yourself one thing at age 17, what would it be?
f) This one, quite easily. One of my favorite characters, one of my favorite writers, one of my favorite books.

a) Because I knew how cool you were. We had something like a fifteen-minute talk and you came out of the experience unscathed and that told me you were very resilient and that you bore further observations. I was not incorrect.
b) Pigskin, gridiron, American football, yes, occasionally to your own risk.
c) You don't do anything halfheartedly. For better or worse you throw yourself into what you're passionate about. I...I guess I admire that, even if I'm occasionally watching from behind bulletproof glass.
d) There was about a six-month period where we'd cross each other's path on campus with statistically-improbably frequency and I'd fall into my default of not saying anything because I didn't think you remembered who I was and honestly there was no way to say "hi" without being totally weird.
e) What are you going to do if/when print journalism collapses on itself?
f) Gotta go with this one. Oh, what a hell of a day that was.

a) Because you make me think about things in a way that exercises my mind -- because you understand a few aspects of life that I'm still getting a handle on, specifially writing, pain and the intersection therein.
b) Has to be the written word -- I know you exist in other fandomic dimensions, but you're most assertive in the world where your word is God.
c) You don't acknowledge limits -- I think you're aware they exist, but the disdain you show them is inspirational. You write without fear. That's where I need to be.
d) Oh, we have those threads where we're spinning from the concrete conversations about writing into the hypothetical and far-flung reaches of possibility and absolutely everything is ludicrous and unbound by any semblance of linear perception and everything that can be just...is. Reality unfolds. And I think my favorite part is that I can't narrow that down to one moment or one discussion. This happens enough that it's almost less glorious. Almost.
e) What's the worst that your characters have rebelled on you? I'm sure they've thrown your plot into the blender from time to time, but when was the deviation the most profound?
f) They're all good, and I like the familiarity of your default, but I'll have to say this one. It's good to see you smile.

a) Didn't I fire you?
b) Two words and they rhyme with "Balan Lickman."
c) You're a prairie fire of creativity across media and genre into fields and areas I've never even heard of. And you're remarkably patient.
d) I think it was the time I was confonted by a Furby and I actually think I might've had a psychotic break for a moment because it was wobbling around making the most insane noises and my brain was saying "I see it, I hear it, but none of this can actually be happening."
e) You can rectify one major aspect of any of your fandoms. What is it? (Or should I wait until Saturday to ask that?)
f) So very, very many to choose from. But this one is just miles above the others, if only because I remember staring at the paper and trying to parse that sentence out loud and failing for at least an hour to break it into digestible syntactic chunks.

Well, just to fill in the blanks:

a) Because you're fucking awesome.
b) The natural state of being fucking awesome.
c) That you're fucking awesome.
d) Oh, that one time, when you were fucking awesome. Wait, that's all the time. Still.
e) How do you manage to be so terribly fucking awesome?
f) Probably Optimus Prime, because he's fucking awesome. Or Dr. Teeth, who is also fucking awesome.

Re: OK, I'll bite!

a) Because even though it seems like we're exactly on the same page, you see things I completely miss. And maybe one in ten times I'll say "hey, I've seen that before," but the rest of the time I just get my mind blown. And it's always good to hear about the family.
b) Speaking of? Neither the web-geekery or the NoLa venue nor even our antipathy to the current administration, it's the family. It's very clear they make you who you are, more than anything else. I like that.
c) You don't fit into any pigeonholes of where we like to stuff people so we understand them better, and you're very good at it, and you seem to be quite comfortable with that. And you take a journalist's eye to the world around you, more so than any non-journo I've met.
d) Feb. 12th, 2007. So many of our days on here are not-good world-ending brain-splitting days. That was a good day.
e) If N'Awlins was gone tomorrow, where do y'all go next?
f) Oh, they're all made of varying ratios of win:wrong, but I still like this one. I remember that pic, and the timing on the animation just amuses me to no end.

a) You know, I can't remember specifically. I think this was before the Mother's Day post -- which I understand, I'm afraid, a little too well, maybe it was the Mike post. But I'm simple enough it could've been "Oooh, Alberta! That's pretty! Maybe I'll see pictures!" And yeah, that paid off.
b) Well, there's the geographic location -- you may live at a higher latitude than any of my f-list.
c) You persevere. With your family, your personal life, against the elements -- and with a sense of humor. Me, I whine up a storm at the drop of a hat.
d) I like how you don't let a little thing like three months sans Internets stop you from making LJ posts, complete with music. See, I would've been dead the morning of Day Three. (Also, do you discard a lot of your pictures or is everything you take like these?) Because they really do break my heart in the best way possible.
e) If you got deported to the US for...I don't know, crimes against humanity or some such, where do you go and what do you try to do? (Don't worry, it's a hypothetical. There are no such plans, and if there were such plans, I would absolutely be forbidden to discuss their existence, or lack thereof, by a court order.)
f) Fond as I am for Cthulhu, there's something about the simplicity and modesty of "Live For Metal, Die For Metal" that just resonates.

a) You'd found me a few months before and it must've been something about doing tech support in the most inhospitable place in the world (excepting part of Kentucky) that was painfully entertaining. My nephew was a firefighter in that neck of the woods for a while and I remember thinking he had the worst job in the world and then I wondered....
b) Unfortunately you remind me a lot of my brother in that it sounds like you've gone through more pain already than most have in their entire lives, and up and down the spectrum that constitutes almost every definition of the word (the back pain in particular). It's enough that if I could I'd be flagging the Universe for unsportsmanlike conduct and giving you fifteen yards and a first down.
c) And you don't let it stop you. There would've been, like, five points along that timeline when I just would've laid down and waited for something to just run me over. I have no idea how you do it. I get tired just thinking about it.
d) Ha! You're the only person I know to try the Amazon Unbox. And, as we learned, there's a reason.
e) Assume that on your way back someone loses Alaska. Where do you go instead? Do you go back into IT? Try something different? Anywhere in the world.
f) The Kavorkian Scarf is you. I mean, I don't even consciously realize what the icon is anymore. I just see it out of the corner of my eye and immediately know who it is.

a) Because you share a birfday with Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery.
b) Good God, just one thing? Boston-area sports? Sports gaming? Four-color fanaticism? Chess? The fact that you know more about my writing project than the rest of the world combined?
c) You exhale carbon dioxide, which is needed by plants to survive.
d) No, not *that* one. Not *that* one either. Staying up until the next morning on a variety of video games but most vividly Joe Montana Sports Talk Football, perhaps the greatest sports video game of all time. Though the later iteration's "Lin Elliot has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs" screen would've made it perfect.
e) If you can tell your thirteen-year-old self one thing, what is it? Hell, if you can tell *my* thirteen-year-old self one thing, what is it?

a) We knew each other before we were who we are.
b) You were keeper of the FAQ, of course, and shortly, too. But funny, I've never seen you be at a lack of anything.
c) In every aspect in which you present yourself, I've never known you to be less than radiant. Even when things were truly miserable, you seem cognizant that it's merely a passing shadow.
d) There are some people for whom parenthood is a daunting time in their life, or an end, or a beginning. When Ellie arrived it was like you were finally...complete, somehow.
e) At what point did you figure out the scary guy who sat next to y'all in the church was yours truly?
f) You have so many and they're so different and hand-crafted...and the win is so strong with the lot of them. So I'll have to cop out and say this one. It's not so much how I see you as I think how you project yourself.

d) I have to cop out here, but you've been positively radiant lately, and it looks good on you. Am glad things are unfolding merrily in that department.
